4 Air Defence Battery
The 4 Air Defence Battery is unique in
that it is the only RDF unit in the country that’s part of a full-time regiment
with other batteries in Dublin, Limerick and HQ in the Curragh. The regiment trains
on heavy machine guns in the air defence role, anti-aircraft artillery guns,
surface-to-air missiles and early warning radar systems. The regiment conducts live firing shoots
and air defence deployment exercises are held frequently all over the country
in addition to up to 6 weeks annual paid camp.
The 4 AD recuits its volunteers from the Cobh, Crosshaven and Carrigaline areas.
