1 Southern Brigade

The 3 Air Defence Battery is unique in that it is the only RDF unit in the country that’s part of a full-time regiment with other batteries in Dublin, Cork and HQ in the Curragh. The regiment trains on heavy machine guns in the air defence role, anti-aircraft artillery guns, surface-to-air missiles and early warning radar systems.The regiment conducts live firing shoots and air defence deployment exercises are held frequently all over the country in addition to up to 6 weeks annual paid camp.

 The 3 Air Defence Battery has a lot to offer Limerick’s young men and women . . . tackling obstacle courses, orienteering, first aid, shooting a vast array of military weapons, cross-country, hill walking, map reading, physical fitness training, adventure training, tactical menoeuvres, communication and leadership skills to mention but a few. The 3 battery has a very good reputation in that our members have gone on to careers in the Permanent Defence Force as Army recruits,  Army officers and Air Corps pilots down though the years.
